Cain is Sasquatch

This is real.

And this man is one of 12 members of the Voices of Africa. They gave us a free concert complete with traditional African dancing and music.

Here's the group.

And here's to you on this day in Black History Month,
February 28, 2010.

A Beautiful Specimen

Two Girls.
Two Weeks.
No Shelves.

(Before)

(During)

(After)

We're calling it a social experiment. We came up with two great titles for it.
-The Shelfless Life.
rule one: no shelves
-True Life: I Have No Shelves

Mostly we just call it fun. It's been a really cleansing experience so far. We've found that we like depriving ourselves of things. In two weeks we will appreciate our shelves much more than we ever have before, or we'll realize how unnecessary they really are. We'll see how it goes.

On another note, thanks to our suitemates' boyfriends for adding some beauty to our shared bathroom this Valentine's Day.

Our boyz would have left flowers for us this V Day, but they told us they don't like labels, corporate America, or spending time with us. We get that, and we love them for it.

Also, we're planning on doing The Haka for our ward talent show on Saturday.
Not really, but we've been practicing anyway.

Paul Walker = Phil Deedle

Day 6

We Obama-ed ourselves

Yes We Can.

Dear Mom

Day 5

Look who we caught up with tonight.

Aren't they great? We think so. That's why the picture is so big.

An evening filled with Cafe Rio and Dear John.

It was fun being together.

As for Black History day. . .

We reviewed our favorite T.V. shows that centered around black families.

The Cosby Show
Smart Guy
Family Matters
Probably better recognized as this. . .

Sister, Sister
But we didn't need to tell you.

You already know them.

Ally is Brushing Her Teeth Right Now

Day 4

In celebration of Black History month for today we 'hooped'.

That means played basketball. You know like, ballin'.

This is what it felt like.

Except instead of being The Professor, Lisa was finally able to be Spyda.

Most importantly, our team won.

But not without the help of the wonderful fan base that Ally rounded up.

After Lisa's game the Dickson family went over to watch her brother 'hoop'.

And since Lisa's Grandma and Grandpa made a surprise visit to watch the games,

they treated themselves to Frosties.

Holla at a balla'

I am My Own Doppelganger

Day 3

Ally sat in the same row as black person in her biology class today.

Lisa waited in the same line as a black person in the testing center.

We love that.

Tickle Bin Elmo

Day 2

We found this picture on our door today.

It's Stevie Wonder.

The halls are decorated with water-colored images of people–Oprah, Halle Berry, Whoopi Goldberg, Rosa Parks, Morgan Freeman, Jackie Robinson, etc.

We appreciate the spirit of the girls in our hall in celebrating Black History month.

Oh. Happy Ground Hog's Day.

Llama Mama

Oh, hey.

It's Black History month, and we couldn't be more thrilled. We love Rosa Parks, Jackie Robinson, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, and the rest of the greats. We will still talk of them and think of them often, but we'd like to spice up this month long holiday by celebrating some current black culture. So today, we bring you:

DeAndre Cortez Way. Better known as Soulja Boy Tell 'Em.
Did you know he's writing a book? We did. Teenage Millionaire. According to our sources it's coming out July 28, 2010. Happy Birthday, Joyce. We hope it's something we can camp out for.

Thank you, DeAndre. For the music. For the style. For the heart. But mostly, for the clever answering machine message we hear when we call your number from Kiss Me Through The Phone.

In closing, here is Soulja Boy's most recent Facebook status update:

Did yall enjoy the Grammy Awards Hopefully I'll win one, one day in my life

We think you will. We know you will. Even if you can't use proper punctuation.

In other news, Ally went snowshoeing with her mom and sister. It was actually easier to take the snow shoes off and walk, so that's what we did. There were pictures, but putting the camera card in her computer resulted in an unexpected trip to the Geek Squad at Best Buy. They sorted everything out, but it will be a while before she works up the courage to try again.

We received a tip from Avery, and joined the 20th ward for a party at Classic Skating on Friday. That's really a place we can be the best versions of ourselves. The fourteen year old DJ seemed to read our hearts, finding the perfect balance between Kesha, Michael Jackson, and The Gap Band. We tried to get tagged in some pictures, but the 20th ward isn't as camera happy as ours is. Oh well.

On Saturday we had an ecclesiastical endorsement party. We've found that people here at BYU like to add the word "party" to the end of lots of things, and we're okay with that. Our ward decided to slash it with a basketball tailgating party. Ecclesiastical endorsement/tailgating party. Yes! Some highlights of this event included:

-agreeing to follow the Honor Code forever.
-Lisa making a sign that says "Go Lisa!" A girl very genuinely asked her, "Oh, which Lisa?!" Bless her heart.
-Looking over in a corner to notice a few young men drawing fake six packs on their stomachs with Crayola Washable Markers

On Sunday, we drove to Salt Sleezy to hear Elder Wagstaff address the congregation. See you in two, man. Later that day, after the rest of church, we went to the Hare Krishna temple in Spanish Fork. It was nuts. There was singing, chanting, a lesson from the Bhagavagita, more singing and chanting, some dancing, and then they put these red dots on our foreheads. I guess you could call us devotees if you wanted to. But don't.
